A unique – and valuable – feature of Global Safe Haven Network will be its locations around the world where young travelers can access information and support in handling personal emergencies. Through partnerships with highly visible corporations, businesses, and nonprofit organizations, Global Safe Haven Network will provide the young traveler – whether traveling alone, with friends, or on a school trip – with assistance. A safe haven will be a place to go where the travelers will be able to use a telephone “hotline” to assist them with immediate crisis information regarding medical issues, transportation failure, separation from travel groups and partners, emergency funds and, most importantly, safe shelter if needed. GSHN’s website and toll free info-line will also serve as a tool to young travelers to be able to find a safe haven in the region where they are traveling.

GSHN safe havens will provide the young adult traveler with the following:

Easy identification through a sticker on the window
Welcoming employee(s), trained to implement procedures to respond to travelers’
A phone for members to use to access the hotline
A safe shelter, if needed
A local resource list and maps to help find a place to stay, a shower, and/or medical assistance, etc.

GSHN is in the process of soliciting corporations and nonprofit organizations that will be able to provide safe haven locations around the world. industries being approached include hospitality (hotel and hostel), transportation (airlines, trains, buses, and rental cars), food service/fast-food, and credit card.
